Project 3 - Garden Window

Well, I got my kitchen garden window redone ...before the week was over!

It was on my list and though I tried to talk myself out of doing it because I needed to file a broken nail and bathe the dog ...I put the project ahead of those things and marched ahead.

I didn't intend to change too much, but I did want to switch out a few plants.  You can see the BEFORE photo here.

In the end, what I decided to do was add silk plants for the winter months plus add more texture with baskets.  I don't have to worry about how plants will react to the colder temps sitting in the window this way.

I removed the miniature palm plant and decided to put off re-potting it until Spring.  I moved it out into the Sun Room with all the other live plants that winter out there.  I gave her a good shower and she perked right up.

Do you use silk plants in your home?  I especially love them when I have a room where there isn't that much natural light.  The silk plants manufactured today look so realistic.  You do have to spend some money for the better ones though and that's why I don't have very many.

I bought my rooster plate a couple of years ago at Hobby Lobby ...I think.  I love it!  The colors brighten up my kitchen and it is quite large and impressive.

My baskets are from all different sources.  The smaller one was given to me by my mother-in-law several years ago and the larger one was purchased while I was working at a design studio in Ohio.  The bird nest is from when I lived in Europe in The Netherlands.

Project 2 - Art

The table needed some personalizing to make it fit in better.  I thought about what I wanted to use to get the job done.  This is what I came up with ...do you like it?

It fits perfectly on the little round table in our Living Room. Here is my original photograph.

I was very pleased on the way it turned out.

This was another project I had on my list today.  You can see the results of my last project here.

Since I started writing down my goals, it has helped me so much.

I am a procrastinator ...BIG TIME.  I have tried so many different things to help me stay focused on getting things done ...when they need to be done.  I suppose I never learned how to deal with procrastination as a child and as an adult just lived with how I turned out ...pretty frustrated most of the time and maybe even a little bit down on myself too much too often.

As I said here, I had no problem getting certain things done ...only because I wanted the end result.  Sort of like getting the reward at the end of the job.

I now work on a weekly basis with my goals ...seems to work out best for this 'ol gal.  I reward myself in different ways too ...keep'n things fresh and exciting.

I have a major project that I'm going to start in March ...called cleaning! Wahoo!!!

Project 1 - The Mantel

The one area (place) in my home that probably gets the most attention when it comes to re-dos ...is the mantel.  It is a space that can handle some easy change-ups without having to shop anywhere but in my own home for accessories.

This is one of the projects I had on my list for February so I'm delighted that I got it done in such a short amount of time.

I already had the frames ...all that was needed was to switch out or create some new art.

 

I added humor and personalized photography to the mix.

And on the opposite side of the mantel, I placed this tiny piece of art next to the lamp.  As a Calligrapher and Graphic Artist, I like to incorporate art in the form of lettering whenever possible ...almost an obsession.

Now I don't normally wait until February to re-do the mantel for the winter season ...and I didn't.  This is actually the second re-do for this winter.  The first was done right after all the Christmas decorations were taken down.  I didn't really like the arrangement I had placed on the mantel ...it was too dark and heavy for my taste.  The room is already pretty dark with all the paneling, so I wanted to lighten it up.  I honestly didn't take any photos of the previous arrangement on the mantel ...that's how much I didn't like it.

The neutral pallett for this arrangement suits the room for this time of the year very well ...I'm already thinking up ideas for Spring though ...there will be more color!
