Another change I've made this year...was to take time to read books.
It wasn't a matter of finding more time to read ...it had more to do with deciding that reading was what I wanted to do.
Once I discovered authors who wrote books that held my attention throughout the entire book ...I looked forward to reading so much that it worked itself into my day without any effort.
It all started that one day in the Half Price Bookstore.
I hadn't finished reading an entire book for over a year ( I know sad, right?) and didn't have a clue where to begin looking for something interesting to read ...a book that would be worth the money and not just become another filler for my library shelf after chapter three.
So I started with the fiction section (say that five times as fast as you can...fiction section...ha). Anyway, a bookcover with sea shells caught my attention. I took the book from the shelf and turned it over discovering it had been a #1 Bestseller and that it was written by a female author .
With book in hand, I started walking toward the back of the bookstore just to snoop ...time I could have spent reading my new book, but what the heck one never knows what one might find, right?
So I approached the tiny CLEARANCE aisle tucked in the far back corner of the store, and saw a woman rummaging through the books.
Everthing was marked $1.00. Wahoo, I thought. Then I muttered, "I didn't know they had a clearance rack here."
The woman must have heard me because she looked up. We exchanged smiles and then without hesitation, I explained how frustrating it was to find an interesting book to read when there were so many choices ...as if she might be interested.
She asked if I had ever read books written by a particular author that she liked. I said I hadn't and thanked her for the suggestion and then went off in search for that author's books.
Surprise, surprise ...I found the entire series and started thumbing through book number one when the customer, from the back of the store, found me and handed me a book. She said this author's books were another she would recommend. I thanked her ...figured it was worth checking out for a mere dollar ...so I decided to buy it too. That gave me two new books to read ...the $1.00 one and another.
I also couldn't resist the stack of "old" books I discovered on one of the shelves on my way to the cashier. So much character and patina on those ragged old book covers.
So not only did I go home with a couple of great books to read, those books catapolted me into becoming an avid reader again plus I was able to add some well-worn books to my library collection.
Has anyone read this book titled Gone With A Handsomer Man?
Tell me what you thought of Gone with a handsomer man if you've finished reading it.
I just ordered it myself.
