Ah, that wonderfully customizable piece of furniture known as the etagere.

I know it well and love it dearly.

Dishcloth

Dishcloth. . .

It is pretty amazing just how much an impact something as simple as a dishcloth can make to sprucing up a kitchen.

Such a little thing, but yet such an easy way to add color and pop to a room.

Most of us inherit the colors in our kitchen, some even loath them but can't change them if they rent.

A coordinating dishcloth can bring out the colors you DO like and help to spread those about the kitchen.  And dishcloths are easy to find and can be fairly inexpensive.

I recommend that you buy new dishcloths about every six months ( or sooner if affordable), especially if you are able to only purchase a few at a time.  Worn out dishcloths can then be used to clean bathrooms, the car, or just about anything else about the house and garage.

I like the way a simple pattern can brighten up an all-white kitchen.

In my own kitchen...

which has patterned granite counter tops with touches of black, I stick with solid black dishcloths that I have monogramed.  I don't want to overpower what's already going on in there plus black dishcloths are easy to find and dress up with assorted monograms for the holidays.

Cheerfulness

Cheerfulness. . .

Be sure to add a bit of cheerfulness somewhere throughout your home.

Using signs and various objects to express your personality is an excellent way to encourage a bit of cheer.

A great place to start is with your front porch or stoop.  It doesn't take a lot of space to tack up a little welcome message that makes who enters feel warm and invited.

For example, look at my photo above ...there's a welcome gnome by my front door and a sign right inside the foyer.

The next time something catches your eye and gives you that warm feeling of cheerfulness ...consider buying it for a place in your home.
