One of the basic things I learned when studying Interior Decorating, was to create an Inspiration Book of Ideas. That goes for both your interior and exterior.
For example, I love copper...especially copper pots.
I use copper for my interior designs as well as my exterior designs; however, very limited to the outdoors.
So when I see something copper that I like in a decorating magazine photo, I pluck it from the mag and add it to my Inspiration Book of Ideas.
Copper ages so beautifully and has a character all to itself, but copper products tend be quite expensive. So if you are on a tight budget {and who isn't?} you should shop for alternatives {look alike} that can be painted copper colored. Ask your home improvement paint specialist about what type of paint to use on the particular surface you are painting or click HERE for an online answers and a source for copper paint.
I was given a large copper tub because a hole hard rusted in the bottom and the previous owner could no longer use it indoors.
Not a problem {and thank you very much}, I put it on my front porch where holes don't matter much. In fact, when I do use it to place flowers in, the holes work very well to drain the water away from the potted plants placed inside of it.
There are several different types of paints that can also give an ordinary clay pot the patina of copper for a lot less money.
Sometimes one can get lucky and snag a copper pot like I said above.
So far, that has only happened to me once, but I do know that used furniture and flea markets do sell copper cast-offs.
You just have to be willing to shop often because most people know how popular copper is and will grab everything they can get their paws on.
The copper decorative pots I bought while living in Europe, hang over my stove in my kitchen. Copper really goes so well with my tile floors and granite counter tops and back splash so I'm always on the look out for it.
I don't use these pans when cooking. I purchased a set of coppers pots and pans from Dillard's a few years ago that I use daily for cooking.
